An Icelandic company is seeking entrance panel, specifically door handles and door knob, manufacturing and development partners. The company has developed a patent-pending illumination and communication device for entrance panels that is reliable, power saving and versatile. A large selection of door handles and knobs, catering to the needs of different users, can be attached to the device for operating entrance panels. The present invention relates to a communication device for apparatus operating entrance panels, comprising:
• A communication means
• An internal electrical power source
• A control circuit
• A receptacle
Wherein the receptacle receives a door handle or door knob to operate the apparatus.
The device is capable of communicating local information in multiple different ways, namely, visual and audible information locally, and binary formatted information for remote information.
The industrial and domestic applicability and of the device is diverse and can be varied in many ways, for example:

The invention could be used for identifying exit doors, fire escape doors, or simply to provide a night light.

In a hotel setting, the optical system could for example be used to display "do not disturb" message on the room door if the guest occupying the room so desires. The device can be deployed to display different messages that reflect different circumstances.

When a hotel guest signs in at the reception desk, the clerk can activate a welcome message to be displayed on the guest’s room door and issue an access code for the guest to dial from his cell phone to gain access to the door.

The patent-pending device has been developed by an entrepreneur that is seeking to make manufacturing or license agreement with established companies that have the means to integrate the device into their product portfolio and market in Europe or globally.
Innovative Aspects:
Communication means, according to the present invention, can take on several meanings: visual, audible, and digital. In the simplest implementation of the communication device the term “communication means” relates to illuminating parts of the entrance panel for e.g. the door knob, the entrance panel itself, or any other suitable surface. The illumination can be flashing according to different duty cycle or a steady light all depending on the application need. A more sophisticated way of communicating visual messages is also possible by the means of a small electro/optical system consisting of light source, lenses, and a dynamically addressable spatial light modulator (SLM). A message (text or graphics) can be dynamically encoded on the SLM and projected onto the entrance panel or any other suitable surface.
Internal power source according to the present invention means e.g. a conventional battery made out of two or more electrochemical cells electrically interconnected in an appropriate series/parallel arrangement to provide the required operating voltage and capacity levels. It should, however, be understood that the form of an internal electrical power source cannot limit the scope or the spirit of this invention as it simply relates to providing power means to operate the communication device.
Working prototypes of the device in an environment that reflects some of its potential usage are already ready and available.
