A South-East-England-based company has developed and wishes to offer additional, mechanical security devices for the doors of commercial vehicles. These security devices require no drilling and can be fitted in a few minutes, protecting both driver and cab from unwanted attack. The device can be used if the cab is occupied or unattended and can be used to comply with Health and Safety and ADR regulations and/or guidelines.

The product is already on the market, but demand is growing due to an increase in crime against commercial vehicles. The product provides additional security for truck and van doors by securing the most vulnerable part of the door, which is the handle and lock. Offering a visual deterrent, these products are an effective means of securing truck or van as well as providing the driver with the most important part of any vehicle with additional means of defence whilst in the cab; and security for the vehicle and contents when away from the cab. The product is made of steel, and is a robust product and is simple to fit, requiring no drilling or time off the road. Innovative Aspects: The product has been designed to be fitted rapidly; no drilling is required. No loss of residual value of vehicle and no damage to vehicle. This product is one of the few security products on the market that protects the driver and the belongings as well as the cab and contents.

Statistics show that 1 in 6 drivers were victim of road attack in 2004, with 1 in 10 being attacked more than once. There is an insurance advantage of using effective security resulting in less claims, and no payment of excess. Drivers also sleep better and are therefore safer on the road, as well as feeling valued as an employee.
